Cataract is a medical term for the clouding of the eye’s lens. The lens is that part of the eye that is located behind the iris and pupil. When light enters the eyes, the lens focuses the light on to the retina. This works the same as a camera. Cataracts make it harder for the lens to do its work of focusing your eyes.
The main component of the lens is protein and water. But when we age, the protein in the eyes gets denuded, or clumped. Cataract makes your vision blurry because the lens cannot do what it is supposed to do. Cataract will expand over time, but the thing is that a doctor will not opt for removal until it affects your vision.

Cortical Cataracts is the type that forms within the cortex. This cataract type expands from the outside of the lens to the center, and is common among those afflicted with diabetes. Nuclear Cataracts are more common than other types. It forms in the center of the lens and it is common to aged people. Ironically, when this type of cataract forms, your vision will improve for a certain time, then worsen gradually. Sub capsular Cataracts start at the back of the lens, and this is also common to diabetes sufferers who take steroids.

This is the best way for the cataract to be removed with minimum risk or pain. Some surgical procedures meant to remove cataract involve getting rid of the clouded lens and replacing it with intraocular lens (a clear plastic lens).
